She was born on December 19, 1969, in Mission Viejo, California.

Swanson began her career in show business at the age of 9, appearing in television commercials. By the time she was 13, she had already appeared in over 30 commercials and received an invitation to her first role in the Disney Channel television series "Dreamfinders".
